The ITF Andong International Men's and Women's Tennis Tournament, held at Andong Citizens Sports Complex Tennis Court for eight days starting on May 10, concluded successfully.
More than 200 players from 14 countries participated in the tournament, delivering high-level matches that carried the excitement befitting an international competition.
The standout player of the tournament was undoubtedly Jung Bo-yeong.
Jung reached the finals in both women's singles and women's doubles, proving the competitiveness of Andong City Hall’s professional team on the global stage.
In the women's doubles final, Jung Bo-yeong, paired with Park So-hyun of Gangwon Provincial Government, faced the team of Jang Su-jeong (Incheon City Hall) and Baek Da-yeon (NH Nonghyup Bank).
As expected from a match featuring national team-caliber athletes, every rally was tense, and both teams engaged in a fierce tactical battle. However, in the latter part of the match, the opposing team succeeded with a decisive break, and Jung Bo-yeong and Park So-hyun had to settle for the runner-up position with a set score of 0-2 (4-6, 3-6).
Jung Bo-yeong's focus also shone in singles play.
She defeated Reina Goto of Japan 2-0 (6-2, 7-5) in the semifinals to advance to the final, where she faced her national team teammate Baek Da-yeon for the title.
Jung seized the initiative early in the final and took the first set, leading the match with strong defense and stable strokes. However, she was overtaken by Baek Da-yeon's comeback, ultimately losing with a set score of 1-2 (6-3, 2-6, 0-6).
Although she fell just short of the championship, her never-give-up attitude throughout the match earned her applause from the crowd.
After the match, Jung Bo-yeong said, "The result is disappointing, but it was a meaningful time to compete and grow alongside great players. I will continue to strive for better performances in upcoming tournaments to repay my fans."
This tournament has been evaluated as a stage that once again confirmed the international competitiveness of Korean women's tennis, with top players from home and abroad taking part.
