"Step by Step Toward Health"... Wanju County Launches Walking Challenge for No Tobacco Day
Solve the Quiz and Take 100,000 Steps
Resident Participation Health Campaign Runs Until June 7
Wanju County in North Jeolla Province has launched a resident participation health campaign ahead of World No Tobacco Day (May 31). The initiative, called the “No Smoking Quiz·Walking Challenge,” aims to foster a healthy community culture by combining the promotion of smoking cessation awareness with everyday walking practices.
This event runs for three weeks, from May 18 to June 7, and is open to all Wanju County residents. Participants can take part by solving quizzes through QR codes related to smoking cessation, joining the mobile walking app “Walkon,” and participating in the challenge via Wanju County's official community.
The walking goal is set at a total of 100,000 steps during the campaign period. To prevent excessive exercise, however, the maximum number of steps recognized per day is limited to 10,000. Eligible participants include residents living in Wanju County or those active within the region.
During this campaign, Wanju County will also provide guidance on the regulations regarding liquid-type electronic cigarettes, in accordance with the recently revised Tobacco Business Act. Residents who submit correct answers to the quiz and achieve the walking goal will receive a mobile coupon worth 5,000 won.
Wanju County is also conducting a smoking cessation campaign in collaboration with local public institutions such as Wanju Post Office and Korea Electrical Safety Corporation. The county plans to boost resident participation further by conducting online promotions through official social media channels.
Yoo Misook, Director of Wanju County Public Health Center, stated, “I hope World No Tobacco Day will be an opportunity for residents to once again reflect on the importance of quitting smoking and to practice healthy lifestyle habits,” adding, “We will continue to pursue various programs to create a smoke-free environment in the community.”
