JW Pharmaceutical and Korean Society for Uterine Myoma and Adenomyosis Hold Public Lecture on Iron Deficiency Anemia
JW Pharmaceutical announced on May 19 that, together with the Korean Society for Uterine Myoma and Adenomyosis, it held a public lecture on iron deficiency anemia for general patients at the Event Hall of POSCO Tower Yeoksam in Seoul on May 7.
This lecture was organized as part of the "Her Story: Re-active" campaign, a joint initiative by JW Pharmaceutical and the Korean Society for Uterine Myoma and Adenomyosis to raise awareness of iron deficiency anemia in women. The purpose was to provide accurate information about iron deficiency anemia and to highlight the importance of early diagnosis and proper management of this condition, which is common among women.
The lecture featured Professor Eo Kyungjin from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yongin Severance Hospital and Professor Lee Sungjong from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital as speakers. Professor Eo discussed "Causes and Symptoms of Iron Deficiency Anemia," explaining the main causes and clinical symptoms of the disease. She particularly emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, noting that symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and decreased concentration—commonly experienced in daily life—are often mistaken for simple fatigue.
Professor Eo stated, "Throughout a woman's life cycle, factors such as menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, and surgery can be major causes of iron deficiency anemia," adding, "In particular, heavy menstruation, fatigue, and shortness of breath are important warning signs from our bodies about iron deficiency anemia." Following her lecture, Professor Lee presented on "Treatment and Management of Iron Deficiency Anemia," introducing treatment approaches and management methods tailored to the patient's condition after diagnosis. He explained the importance of replenishing iron through appropriate treatment. Professor Lee emphasized, "If there is low adherence to oral iron supplements or if the treatment effect is insufficient, it is necessary to consider intravenous iron injections based on the patient's condition."
After the lectures, there was a Q&A session where attendees could ask medical professionals questions they had about iron deficiency anemia and receive direct answers. Participants learned about suspected symptoms, the necessity of testing, the treatment process, and management strategies in daily life, enhancing their understanding of the disease. Iron deficiency anemia can manifest through various symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and decreased concentration in everyday life, but is often mistaken for simple fatigue, leading to missed opportunities for timely diagnosis and treatment. Especially for women, the risk of iron deficiency anemia increases due to menstruation, pregnancy, and childbirth, making it important to visit a medical institution for an accurate diagnosis and testing if symptoms are suspected.
JW Pharmaceutical plans to continue its awareness activities on iron deficiency anemia, starting with this lecture, and will expand educational programs and campaigns to help patients receive early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
A JW Pharmaceutical representative stated, "Iron deficiency anemia is a common disease, but its symptoms can be easily overlooked, preventing active diagnosis and management. Together with the Korean Society for Uterine Myoma and Adenomyosis, we will continue to provide accurate information about iron deficiency anemia in women and carry out awareness activities so that patients can receive timely treatment."
