The election office of Lee Gwonjae, the People Power Party candidate for Osan mayor, continues to receive visits from civic organizations and local community groups. As meetings in the form of discussion sessions to address regional issues and propose policies are being held, there is an assessment that a field-driven election atmosphere is taking shape.
On the 14th, representatives from the resident representative meetings of 18 apartment complexes in the Osan area visited the election office of candidate Lee Kwon Jae and delivered a joint proposal titled "Osan Stories Shared with Residents - A Total of 12 Stories" and held a meeting. Through the petition, the representatives proposed practical issues that citizens can directly feel, including: ▲ Extension of the Bundang Line from Osan University Station to Segyo 2·3 Districts ▲ Introduction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) between Segyo and Osan Station and expansion of metropolitan bus routes ▲ Attraction of a general hospital and enhancement of emergency medical care ▲ Rapid completion of the western bypass road ▲ Construction of new schools ▲ Establishment of a new police substation in Chopyeong-dong ▲ Improvement of living environments.
In response, candidate Lee Gwonjae stated, "Many of the projects proposed by residents are already being reviewed or incorporated as pledges or as part of the city's administrative agenda," adding, "We will push forward with the projects included in our pledges with speed, and will carefully consider additional proposals from the perspective of improving citizens' quality of life."
He continued, "While political slogans are important, what ultimately changes citizens' lives is execution. If we stop now, we would have to start over from the beginning, so I intend to be judged by the results in citizens' lives and the city's development."
The campaign's general headquarters commented, "Since the designation of Segyo 3 District, the need to expand essential living infrastructure—such as government offices, university hospitals, and large-scale shopping malls, which were insufficient during the development of Segyo 1 and 2 Districts—has grown significantly. We plan to continue reflecting related sites and attracting excellent facilities to raise the standard of citizens' lives."
They further explained, "The extension of the Bundang Line to Segyo 2 and 3, the introduction of BRT between Segyo District and Osan University Station, and the expansion of metropolitan buses are already included in our pledges and will be implemented immediately if elected for a second term. The establishment of Segyo 2-1 Middle School and the relocation of the Gwoldong District Police Station are also within reach through consultations with relevant agencies, and we will work to ensure prompt finalization."
Regarding the western bypass road, they emphasized, "The temporary detour road established to relieve citizens' transportation inconveniences will open on May 18, and we will take responsibility for its full restoration until completion."
A campaign official added, "Expanding educational, transportation, security, and medical infrastructure is not simply a development project, but an issue directly linked to citizens' daily lives. We will continue an election campaign focused on citizens' quality of life and urban competitiveness rather than political strife."
Meanwhile, since the opening of the election office, there have been more than 50 group visits. From May 13 to 15, a relay of visits continued from various civic groups and local organizations, including parents from Segyo area daycare centers, Aurum Volunteer Group, Osan Jokgu Association, Kium Volunteer Group, Honorary Environmental Monitoring Group, Dream Security System security guards, Widows of Vietnam War Veterans Association, representatives from Osan 40s Football Club, badminton clubs and parents' groups, Osan Public and Home Daycare Association, Osan 2030 Football Team, the Osan branch of (Inc.) i-Korea, and the Sports Development Council.
In particular, the Kium Volunteer Group, with its 24 members including President Kwon Taehyung, publicly announced their support, giving additional momentum.
Within the local political circle, there is analysis that the field experience and hands-on administrative approach of candidate Lee Gwonjae—who started as a milk agency owner and has lived alongside Osan citizens for 33 years—are once again drawing attention.
