Vietnamese Short Film Supported by CJ to Become Feature After Cannes
Nguyen's "Dream Is a Snail"
Selected for Focus CoPro
The Vietnamese short film supported by CJ Cultural Foundation will be developed into a feature film after being showcased at the Cannes Film Festival.
According to Variety, a U.S. entertainment media outlet, on May 17 (Korean time), director Nguyen Thien An's short film "Dream is a Snail" will be developed into a feature-length film. It has been selected for the Focus Copro program at the Cannes Film Festival, which supports feature debut projects.
"Dream is a Snail" was produced through the CJ Short Film Project. It was initially planned as a sci-fi action comedy, but since this is a rare genre in the Vietnamese market, it was first made as a short film. Produced with the support of the CJ Cultural Foundation, CGV Vietnam, and the Korean Academy of Film Arts, the film was selected for the short film competition section at the Cannes Film Festival.
The story unfolds as an extra actor takes on the role of a model in a treatment workshop for the elderly. It humorously and satirically depicts a young man caught between reality and desire in a situation where a snail crawls over his body.
Since 2018, CJ Cultural Foundation and CGV Vietnam have selected five rookie Vietnamese directors each year. They provide production funding, mentoring, post-production, and support for submitting films to international film festivals. Out of the thirty films supported so far, thirteen have been invited to or awarded at major international film festivals.
