Trump Calls Directly from Private Jet After China Visit
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, who had just completed his visit to China, and discussed issues related to China, Iran, and other matters.
According to Kyodo News and NHK, Prime Minister Takaichi told reporters that after speaking with President Trump by phone for about 15 minutes starting at 7:30 p.m. on May 15, she "received a detailed explanation from President Trump regarding his visit to China."
Prime Minister Takaichi said, "We exchanged views on various issues surrounding China, including economic security, as well as economic and security matters," and added, "We also discussed the situation in Iran and agreed to continue close communication between Japan and the United States going forward."
She further stated, "I also conveyed the Japanese position that it is important for the situation in Iran to stabilize as soon as possible."
When asked whether there had been any discussions related to Japan during the U.S.-China summit, Prime Minister Takaichi replied, "I received a detailed explanation on the understanding that it would not be disclosed publicly," and said only that "the content was very helpful."
She did not specify whether the Taiwan issue was mentioned during the call.
She emphasized, "We were able to reaffirm the steadfast U.S.-Japan alliance."

Kyodo News reported that President Trump personally made the call to Prime Minister Takaichi from his private jet after completing his visit to China. The Japanese government had coordinated with the U.S. side to arrange an early phone call following the U.S.-China summit.
