Lee Ki-hyung, the Democratic Party candidate for mayor of Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, has joined forces with Choo Mi-ae, the Gyeonggi Province governor candidate, to launch a strong "one team" campaign aimed at solving Gimpo's key issues.

View original imageOn May 15, candidate Lee, along with Gyeonggi Province governor candidate Choo Mi-ae and National Assembly members Kim Jooyeong and Park Sanghyuk, conducted on-site inspections by visiting Aramarina in Gochon-eup, Gimpo, and Banghwa Vehicle Base in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. The purpose of these visits was to concretize plans for expanding the transportation network and revitalizing the local economy, longstanding wishes of Gimpo residents.
During his visit to Aramarina in Gochon, candidate Lee presented his vision to transform Gimpo into a "waterfront tourism city." He emphasized, "As demand for marine leisure is surging, it is urgent to establish an educational institution to train specialized personnel," adding, "Through the construction of the 'Aramarina Marine Leisure Education Center,' we will secure a new growth engine for Gimpo's future."
In response, Gyeonggi Province governor candidate Choo Mi-ae remarked, "Gimpo is a city with limitless potential in its waterfront resources," and pledged, "At the provincial level, we will actively support the construction of the education center and the expansion of related infrastructure to establish Aramarina as a hub for marine leisure."
Next, the two candidates moved to Banghwa Vehicle Base, where they focused on inspecting the extension project for Subway Line 5. Lee stressed, "The extension of Line 5 is not just a matter of transportation convenience, but a critical issue directly tied to the survival of Gimpo residents," and added, "Government, metropolitan authorities, and Gimpo must all unite to have the extension from Gimpo to Gangnam, including the GTX-D, reflected in the 5th National Railway Network Plan to achieve a dramatic transformation of Gimpo's transportation system."
In particular, he made a concrete pledge to resolve transportation blind spots throughout Gimpo by not only extending the line but also ensuring the establishment of new stations at Pungmu 2, Gimpo Police Station, and in the northern part of Gimpo, including Tongjin and Daegot.
Candidate Choo also pointed out the overcrowding issues of the Gimpo Gold Line, stating, "If elected governor, I will work closely with candidate Lee Ki-hyung to make every effort to dramatically improve transportation infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for citizens."
National Assembly members Kim Jooyeong and Park Sanghyuk, who represent the local constituency, accompanied the candidates on-site to show their support. The two lawmakers reinforced the one team spirit, saying, "We will spare no effort in securing the necessary budget and providing policy support at the National Assembly level to ensure the core commitments made by candidates Lee and Choo are implemented without delay."

Candidate Lee Ki-hyung expressed his determination, saying, "Only the Democratic Party's strong network, uniting Gyeonggi Province, the National Assembly, and Gimpo City, can quickly resolve Gimpo's pressing challenges. If elected mayor, I will make the Line 5 extension and the development of Aramarina my top priorities to realize a great transformation of Gimpo that residents can truly experience."
