Seo-gu, Gwangju Selected for UNICEF Child-Friendly City Contest
The Only District Selected in the Honam Region, Policy Excellence Recognized
Full-Scale Launch of Children's Creative Support Project
A green light has been given to Seo-gu District of Gwangju Metropolitan City in its efforts to establish a child-friendly city, which is one of its key initiatives.
According to the Seo-gu District Office of Gwangju on May 15, the district will actively launch the “Good City Seo-gu, Child Author Super 100” project, an initiative to support children’s creative activities. The project recently secured a total budget of 10 million won after being selected for a public contest organized by the UNICEF Child-Friendly City Local Government Council.
The contest was held for the 99 local government members nationwide, and Seo-gu was the only district selected from the Gwangju and Jeolla regions, thereby gaining recognition for the excellence of its child-friendly policies.
“Good City Seo-gu, Child Author Super 100” is a creative project designed to help children express their thoughts and voices directly through illustrated diaries, poetry, and other works.
Through this project, Seo-gu plans to select a total of 100 child authors. Their works—reflecting children’s perspectives on topics such as “The Good City I Hope For,” “The Child-Friendly City I Love,” and Seo-gu’s unique “1,000-won Series” stories—will be compiled and published as a collection.
A “Generational Empathy Publication Ceremony” will also be held. Local calligraphy associations and senior club volunteers will participate by transcribing the children's original texts by hand, creating a space for emotional connection between generations.
