Gyeongsan City Selected as '2026 Best Institution for Water Management'
Recognized for Achievements in Modernizing Water Supply Networks,
Upgrading Purification Plants, and Managing Sewage Treatment Facilities
Gyeongsan City announced on May 14 that it has been selected as the 2026 Best Institution for Water Management, jointly chosen by the National Assembly Environment Forum, Korea Water Forum, Water Journal, Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, and the Korean Federation of Environmental Science and Technology Societies.
The award ceremony was held on the same day during the commemorative event for the '2026 Advanced Strategies for Water and Sewage Management Seminar' at the Phoenix Jeju Island Ballroom in Seogwipo, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
Gyeongsan City was recognized as the Best Institution for Water Management as a result of its accomplishments across all areas of water management, including the provision of clean and safe tap water, modernization of water supply facilities, and systematic management of sewage treatment plants.
As of 2025, Gyeongsan City is providing stable water supply services to a population of 285,000, with a water supply coverage rate of 99.45%.
In particular, through the water supply network modernization project with a total project cost of 48.3 billion won, the city has been working to repair aging pipelines, establish maintenance systems, reduce water leakage, and improve water flow rates.
Additionally, by introducing advanced water purification facilities with a total investment of 44 billion won and expanding the Gyeongsan Water Purification Plant, Gyeongsan City has established a system for delivering high-quality tap water.
In the field of sewerage as well, systematic operation of public sewage treatment facilities and water quality monitoring have contributed to improving the water quality of the Nakdong River and creating a pleasant living environment.
