NK Edamont Obtains ‘KGMP Certification’... "Entering the Medical Hyperbaric Platform Market"
NK's defense affiliate, NK Edamont, is set to make a full-scale entry into the hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber (HBOT) market.
On May 14, NK Edamont announced that it had received certification of compliance with the 'medical device manufacturing and quality management standards' from the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR).
NK Edamont's hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber maximizes structural reliability by applying the global standard—STAMP certification from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)—to the entire process from design to manufacturing. The company has developed 14 treatment tables based on the U.S. Navy diving manual, enabling the chambers to respond to both emergency and chronic medical conditions.
In particular, NK emphasizes its differentiated technological competitiveness from general medical device manufacturers. The company already possesses core technologies for submarine hyperbaric systems, which must operate in extreme environments, as well as for hydrogen energy charging, storage, and transport solutions, which require rigorous safety standards.
NK has incorporated its globally proven safety mechanisms and manufacturing expertise for vibration and noise control in high-pressure systems, as verified in the submarine and hydrogen industries, into the chamber. Through this, the company aims not only to supply equipment but also to provide the safest treatment environment for both patients and medical staff, thereby rapidly securing market share.
Additionally, in collaboration with the Brain Engineering Research Institute at Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), the company is conducting non-invasive joint research on brain disorder treatments such as Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia, further expanding the scalability of its hyperbaric medical platform. Additional research is also underway in areas related to animals, sports medicine, and male urology.

An NK representative stated, "A hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber is, above all, a high-pressure facility requiring technical integrity and absolute safety mechanisms, even before being classified as a medical device. Based on our accumulated technological advantage in the submarine and hydrogen sectors, we aim to emerge as a new powerhouse in the global medical device market."
