OpenAI Establishes Dedicated Enterprise AI Deployment Company with $4 Billion Investment
OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, is establishing a separate company dedicated to the adoption and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI), as part of its efforts to strengthen its presence in the enterprise AI market.
On May 11 (local time), OpenAI announced the launch of the ‘OpenAI Deployment Company.’ This new company will support enterprises in applying OpenAI’s AI models to their actual work systems and core workflows.
The newly established company will involve global investment firms such as TPG, Advent, Bain Capital, and Brookfield, as well as consulting and system integration companies. OpenAI will remain the major shareholder and retain management control of the new company. The initial investment in the company will exceed 4 billion dollars.
Alongside the launch, OpenAI has decided to acquire Tomoro, an AI consulting and engineering firm. Once the acquisition is finalized, approximately 150 engineers and deployment experts from Tomoro will join the new company. These professionals will be deployed within client organizations to identify work areas with high potential for AI adoption and help build AI systems that can be used in actual operations.
This move demonstrates that the competition in generative AI is shifting from model development to enterprise implementation. Anthropic has also recently partnered with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs to establish a company focused on enterprise AI services.
