Jongno-gu Reopens Cheongjin Park as an Urban Garden After Removing Walls
Linked to the Garden Expo
New Stream-Style Water Feature "Cheongjin-ryu" Installed
Jongno-gu, Seoul, announced on May 8 that Cheongjin Park (146-3, Cheongjin-dong) in the Gwanghwamun city center has been refurbished and opened to the public as an open space blending gardens, relaxation, and culture.
This refurbishment is part of the "Attractive District Garden Creation Project," which is linked to the "2026 Seoul International Garden Expo." Starting from March, the district focused on creating a "communicative open structure" and a "multi-sensory landscape" over the course of about a month.
The old wall that previously blocked the interior of the park was removed to improve visibility and pedestrian flow. The park was also transformed into a community garden hub where citizens can participate directly, in connection with the nearby "Gardener's House" program. The central space created by the removal of the wall now features gardening tables, serving as both a rest area and a stage for outdoor gardening programs.
On one side of the park, a new stream-style water feature, "Cheongjin-ryu," now flows. The clear stream and the sound of water simultaneously stimulate sight and hearing, allowing visitors to experience a sense of natural tranquility even in the city center.
Immediately after reopening, Cheongjin Park has gained a reputation as a healing spot in Gwanghwamun among nearby office workers and tourists. Thanks to the harmonious blend of the serene atmosphere of traditional Hanok and modern garden design, citizens frequently visit the park during lunchtime.
