Suwon Mayor Lee Jaejun Inspects Flood-Prone Areas on the 4th
On May 4, Suwon Mayor Lee Jaejun inspected areas at risk of flooding and urged public officials to "respond immediately and make swift decisions to prevent any damage to citizens in the event of heavy rainfall."
To mark Safety Inspection Day in May (May 4), Mayor Lee visited a multi-family residence in Gosaek-dong that experienced flooding during the summer of 2022, as well as the Ilwol underpass, which is also at risk of flooding during heavy rainfall.
The area around the Gosaek-dong multi-family residence is classified as a disaster-prone zone, as many semi-basement households were flooded during torrential rains in the summers of 2012 and 2022.
In 2023, Suwon City installed an overflow prevention wall and seven storm drains near the multi-family residences and purchased 20 household pumps to prepare for potential flooding. Last year, the city also repaired submersible pumps and electrical equipment and installed an additional noiseless trench.
Additionally, before the start of each rainy season, the city cleans the storm drains and public sewers and inspects the submersible pumps.

He urged, "Complete all flood prevention measures before the rainy season begins and thoroughly verify their actual operation on site."
Mayor Lee then visited the Ilwol underpass site to inspect the underground electrical room. Suwon City is promoting the "Ilwol Underpass Power Distribution Panel Replacement and Relocation Project," which involves relocating the underground electrical room above ground to better prepare for flooding. The city plans to complete the detailed engineering design by July this year, begin construction in August, and finish the project by December.
