Gadeokdo New Airport Relocation Plan: First Review Notices Sent, Two-Thirds Deferred
Stricter Residency Verification
Additional Explanation Allowed Until End of May
The results of the first review of the resident relocation plan for the Gadeokdo New Airport site have been announced.
On May 4, the Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Corporation stated that it had individually notified residents of Daehang-dong in Gangseo District, who are located within the project area, of the results of the first review regarding eligibility for relocation and resettlement support.
This relocation plan focuses on compensating actual residents, reflecting the nature of the project, which is funded by public resources. The reference date for determining residency is September 12, 2022, which is one year prior to the announcement of the basic plan for public inspection.
The corporation determined that verifying actual residency based solely on formal documents has its limitations, so it established separate criteria. Legal counsel, meetings with external experts, and communication advisory meetings with Busan City were conducted. Official records such as electricity and water usage statements were also used for verification.
The review process involved a comprehensive examination of additional documents based on application materials, such as resident registration data and building registers.
Of the 330 applicants, about two-thirds were deferred because there was insufficient evidence of actual residency. However, those with unavoidable circumstances, such as illness, military service, or school enrollment, will be given an additional opportunity to provide further explanation. The deadline for this is the end of May.
The corporation has indicated that utility bills, national health insurance payment certificates, telecommunications payment records, public transportation usage records, and certificates of school enrollment for children can be submitted as supplementary evidence. The final list of eligible residents is expected to be confirmed in June.
An official from the corporation stated, "We will strengthen the review process to prevent wasteful use of national finances due to ineligible selections, and ensure that fair compensation is provided to actual residents."
