Dong-gu, Gwangju Improves Single-Room Residents' Living Conditions Using Hometown Love Donation Fund
Dong-gu, Gwangju is set to utilize the entire amount of its Hometown Love Donation Fund to improve the residential environment of single-room residents in preparation for the summer heatwave.
On May 4, Dong-gu announced that it will officially launch the ‘Residential Environment Improvement Project’ targeting 142 single-room residents in the Daein-dong and Gyerim-dong areas. This project is funded by the Hometown Love Donation Fund and is drawing attention as a representative example of directly improving the lives of vulnerable groups.
The beneficiaries are residents living in 42 single-room accommodations such as inns and motels in the Daein-dong and Gyerim-dong areas. The district plans to replace 45 old air conditioners and provide 97 refrigerators. The focus is on ensuring that residents, who have been struggling due to poor heating and cooling conditions and a lack of essential home appliances, can maintain a safer and more comfortable life during the summer heatwave.
In particular, the project has enhanced its systematic approach by selecting beneficiaries through a preliminary survey and individual consultations, and implementing the project in phases. Dong-gu completed the demand survey and finalized the beneficiaries in April, and plans to proceed with the project this month after contract reviews.
The total project cost of 88 million won is entirely funded by the Hometown Love Donation Fund. This project, which uses the Hometown Love Donation Fund, serves as an example of addressing local issues and protecting vulnerable groups from heatwaves, thereby enhancing the public value of the system.
