Minister Choi Huieyoung Holds Basic Arts Division Meeting... Discusses Classical Music, Traditional Korean Music, and Dance Policies
Choi Huieyoung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will convene the 2nd meeting of the Basic Arts Division (classical music, traditional Korean music, and dance) of the Culture and Arts Policy Advisory Committee on April 30. At this meeting, she will review the current situation with experts in the relevant fields and discuss future policy directions.

View original imageThe Culture and Arts Policy Advisory Committee was established directly under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on November 10 last year and operates with a total of nine divisions. At this meeting, artists and experts with extensive experience in the basic arts field, including Choi Woojung, Professor of Composition at Seoul National University College of Music, and Kim Juwon, Head and Artistic Director of the Korea Ballet Festival Promotion Group, will participate to share their insights from the field and provide policy recommendations.
For 2026, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will provide a total of 743.2 billion won in support to the arts sector to revitalize basic arts, including 38.4 billion won for creation, production, and performing arts festivals, 81.6 billion won for regional performance distribution and cultural venue activation, and 18 billion won for supporting young creators in K-Art. In addition, through the first supplementary budget, the ministry has secured a total of 73.8 billion won, including 32 billion won in livelihood stabilization loans for artists, 3.4 billion won for training program participants at cultural and arts institutions, and 4 billion won for performing arts discount coupons, thereby supporting the livelihoods of artists vulnerable to the economic downturn.
During this meeting, participants will focus on discussing ways to ensure that various support measures for the promotion of basic arts are felt in the field, including strengthening support for artists' creative and production activities, revitalizing regional performances, and developing new audiences and expanding the base.
