A Wealth of Sights from Festivals, Experiences, Nightscapes, to Spring Flowers
Tailored Travel Courses for Families and Couples
To celebrate Family Month in May, Jeonnam Province has unveiled a variety of travel courses perfect for families, couples, and parents. From festivals and hands-on experiences to healing forest trails and romantic nightscapes, there is a “complete gift set” of options to suit every preference.
For families traveling together, the Damyang Bamboo Festival (May 1–5), the Boseong Daryang Tea Festival (May 1–5), and the 2026 Pre-Wando International Seaweed Expo (May 2–7) are ideal choices.
At Gwanbangjerim Forest and Juknokwon Bamboo Garden in Damyang, visitors can enjoy bamboo forest walks and performances, while at the Boseong Korean Tea Culture Park, tea picking and tea ceremony experiences are offered.
In Wando, a rich array of marine content awaits, from seaweed exhibitions to water performances.
Festivals offering interactive experiences for children are also noteworthy.
The Goheung Space & Aerospace Festival, held at the Naro Space Center (May 2–5), features space suit experiences and launch vehicle exhibits, while the Haenam Dinosaur Festival offers a dinosaur robot show and dinosaur footprint exploration programs.
At Seomjingang Train Village (May 3–5), musicals, busking performances, children’s shows, and hands-on events continue throughout the festival.
If you are traveling with parents, quiet healing courses are recommended.
At Jeongnamjin Cypress Forest Woodland and Manyeonsan Healing Forest, you can participate in forest healing programs, and at Hwasun Jeokbyeok Cliff, a bus tour (by advance reservation from May 2 to 31) offers a unique scenic experience.
Dasan Chodang and Baegun-dong Garden are contemplative travel destinations where you can experience both historical and traditional atmospheres.
Emotional getaways for couples are also not to be missed. At Mokpo Peace Plaza, the “Mokpo Marine W Show” offers a nightscape enhanced by performances, fountains, and fireworks, while the area around Yeosu Marine Park features romantic busking performances every Friday and Saturday until the end of October.
At Suncheonman Bay National Garden, the Starlight Program (May 5) and the Hwasun Flower River Music Fountain (throughout May) add to the ambiance.
There are also abundant spring flower attractions. At the Gokseong World Rose Festival, over 1,000 varieties of roses create a spectacular scene, and the Sinan Lavender Festival (May 15–25) presents a garden awash in purple hues.
The Muan Doripo Canola Flower Festival and the azaleas and royal azaleas of Nogodan on Mount Jiri also reach their peak in May.
This year, in particular, is designated as the “Year of Visiting Islands,” resulting in expanded marine tourism content.
On May 2, the “2026 Year of Visiting Islands Proclamation Ceremony” will be held at Yi Sun-sin Plaza, and on Nango Island, the “Give-Run” event (May 30) will be held, providing a unique opportunity to enjoy both the island and the sea.
