Eunhee Kang, Daegu Superintendent Candidate: "Jaemyung Lee, Do Not Blame Teachers for the Decline in Field Trips"
Eunhee Kang, Preliminary Candidate for Daegu Superintendent of Education, issued a statement on April 29 regarding President Jaemyung Lee's remarks about field trip experiences, emphasizing, "We should not place the blame for the decline in field trips on teachers." She added, "The solution should not be about blaming teachers, but rather about protecting them and strengthening safety systems."
In her statement, Kang said, "While I agree with the intention of highlighting the need to expand learning opportunities for students, viewing the reduction in field trips as a result of teachers avoiding responsibility is a misunderstanding of the educational environment."
Kang, Preliminary Candidate for Daegu Superintendent of Education, also said, "After the 2024 fire accident at Palgongsan Training Center, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education has continuously improved field trip safety by supplementing safety manuals, strengthening pre-activity risk assessments, reducing cooking activities, and increasing the deployment of safety personnel." She emphasized, "This demonstrates that the solution for field trips lies in strengthening safety systems, not in criticizing teachers on the ground."
She further stressed, "Student safety and the promotion of field trip experiences are not mutually exclusive. It is difficult to develop future competencies with only classroom lessons, so experiential activities and learning trips outside of school must continue to expand."
Kang proposed the establishment of legal safeguards for teachers in the event of accidents during educational activities, strengthening the national responsibility system for school safety, and expanding the infrastructure for safety support in field trips.

She concluded, "Viewing teachers as potential avoiders cannot revive public education. It is the responsibility of the state and education authorities to change the system so that teachers can confidently take students out into the field. I also ask parents to support and encourage teachers so that they can provide more life-connected field trip experiences without being discouraged."
