KOSPI Reverses to Gains, Touches 6,700 Mark
Rebound After a Slightly Weaker Start
Driven by Net Buying from Individuals and Institutions
On April 29, the KOSPI, which started the day slightly lower, successfully reversed its course to trade above the 6,700 mark. The KOSDAQ also maintained the 1,200 level, supported by strong individual investor buying.
As of 2:42 p.m. on this day, the KOSPI stood at 6,683.81, up 0.64% from the previous day. After opening slightly lower at 6,619.00, the index turned upward and climbed as high as 6,702.38 at around 1:33 p.m.
Buying from both individual and institutional investors appeared to drive the index higher. During the same period, individuals made net purchases of 39.5 billion won, while institutions bought a net 486.5 billion won. In contrast, foreign investors sold a net 464.8 billion won. The top stocks by net institutional purchases included Hyundai Motor, Samsung SDI, and POSCO Holdings.
Most sectors shifted to an upward trend. The chemical sector led the gains with an increase of 3.41%. This was followed by transportation equipment & parts (0.96%), transportation & storage (0.86%), electrical & electronics (0.85%), and nonmetallic minerals (0.82%). On the other hand, securities (-1.97%), pharmaceuticals (-1.54%), telecommunications (-1.33%), and general services (-1.09%) declined.
Most of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization also turned upward. Hanwha Aerospace rose by 3.7%, Samsung Electronics by 2.0%, SK Square by 1.7%, Hanwha Aerospace (again) by 1.5%, and Doosan Enerbility by 1.1%. In contrast, Samsung Biologics (-2.0%), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (-1.5%), and SK hynix (-0.5%) fell.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ rose 0.19% from the previous day to 1,217.92. Like the KOSPI, it started slightly weaker but then reversed to an upward trend.
Net buying by individual investors supported the index. Individuals were net buyers of 169.4 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions sold a net 38.7 billion won and 91.6 billion won, respectively.
Among sectors, distribution (1.48%), transportation & storage (1.47%), metals (1.39%), and entertainment & culture (0.97%) showed strength. Telecommunications (-1.86%) and transportation & storage (-1.79%) were weaker.

Most of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization on the KOSDAQ declined. Rigachem Bio recorded the steepest drop at -3.9%, followed by Ecopro (-0.9%), Rainbow Robotics (-0.7%), and Ecopro BM (-0.4%). In contrast, Samchundang Pharm (2.4%), ABL Bio (1.5%), and Alteogen (1.0%) gained.
