Filing Comprehensive and Local Income Taxes Made Easier... Major Improvements to Hometax, ARS, and National Secretary
Comprehensive and Local Income Tax Filing and Payment Due by June 1
National Tax Service Sends Filing Guidance Notices to 13.33 Million Taxpayers
May is the month for filing and paying Comprehensive Income Tax and Individual Local Income Tax. Individuals who received comprehensive income in 2025 are required to file and pay by June 1. The National Tax Service has significantly improved the Hometax system, ARS, and the National Secretary service to make filing and payment easier and more convenient for taxpayers.
The National Tax Service announced on the 29th that it has been sequentially sending filing guidance notices via mobile to 13.33 million taxpayers subject to comprehensive income tax and similar obligations since the 24th. For those who do not receive the mobile notice, a paper notice will be sent.

For taxpayers eligible for the "Pre-filled Refund" who file as guided by the National Tax Service, income tax refunds will be paid early.
To create a taxpayer-centered filing environment, the National Tax Service has upgraded all filing systems, including Hometax, Sontax, and ARS, and greatly improved the filing guidance notices.
As a result, taxpayers can now file their income tax more conveniently using the newly structured, easy-to-understand Pre-filled guidance notice, which focuses on the information needed for filing, and the simplified Hometax (Sontax) platform through the "File As Is" feature.
In particular, income tax refund claimants no longer need to enter their contact information and refund account details anew every time they file. When filing via ARS, this information is provided automatically, making refund claims even easier. In addition, if taxpayers have questions during the filing process, they can receive prompt and accurate assistance through the generative AI chatbot service provided on Hometax.
Since 2016, the National Tax Service has been sending Pre-filled guidance notices that pre-calculate figures from gross income to tax amount. This year, the scope of recipients has been expanded to 7.17 million people, including mid-year leavers who missed year-end tax settlement and first-time single-person YouTubers who reported business status for the first time. In particular, 4.6 million people eligible for comprehensive income tax refunds will receive the Pre-filled (Refund) guidance notice.
