Park Yongseon, Pohang Mayoral Candidate, Announces Pledge for "Pohang 29 Colors Choir"
Community Choirs in All 29 Districts, Aiming for “A City Where Everyday Life Becomes Art”
Dispatch of Conductors and Instructors, Support for Practice Spaces, Annual Citywide Choir Competition
Park Yongseon, the People Power Party candidate for Mayor of Pohang, has pledged to establish the “Pohang 29 Colors Choir” as a key policy in the field of culture and the arts.
With the slogan “A City Where Everyday Life Becomes Art,” Park envisions transforming Pohang into a citizen-participatory cultural city centered on community arts.
The core of the pledge is to organize community choirs in all 29 towns, townships, and neighborhoods within Pohang. Park has promised proactive administrative support so that all citizens can enjoy the arts in their daily lives.

Choir activities will go beyond simple club gatherings; there will be regular opportunities for citizens to take the stage by linking choir performances with local festivals.
An annual choir contest involving all towns, townships, and neighborhoods will be held to foster community harmony among residents.
In addition, Park plans to form a “Citizen Grand Choir” composed of outstanding members selected from each region and to operate it as a cultural delegation representing Pohang.
Citizen choirs rooted in local communities have already been recognized as successful models for promoting unity among residents in various cities both in Korea and abroad.
In Europe, including the United Kingdom, “Community Choir” movements have helped overcome social isolation and revive local communities.
In Korea, local governments such as Seoul and Incheon have similarly raised civic pride and addressed cultural alienation through “One Neighborhood, One Choir” projects and support programs for choirs by social group.

Park emphasized, “Choral singing is an art where people with different voices come together, listen to each other, yield, and create a single harmony. The ‘Pohang 29 Colors Choir’ will go beyond cultural policy and become a powerful medium for unity, connecting generations and regions and bringing Pohang citizens together as one.”
