Almost Another 'Motel Murder'... Woman in Her Twenties Robs Men After Drugging Them with Sleeping Pills
Crimes Targeting Men Met Through Matchmaking Agencies
Stole Valuables Worth 48.9 Million Won from Four Men
A woman in her twenties has been arrested by police for drugging men she met through matchmaking agencies and stealing valuables worth tens of millions of won.
According to a report by Yonhap News Agency on April 27, the Uijeongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province has detained a woman in her twenties, referred to as Ms. A, on charges of robbery with injury and violation of the Narcotics Control Act. Ms. A is accused of incapacitating four men with sleeping pills and stealing approximately 48.9 million won in valuables from December of last year to April of this year in the greater Seoul area.
It was found that she approached victims, including a man in his thirties identified as Mr. B, whom she got to know through matchmaking agencies or introductions by acquaintances. After building a relationship by living together for about a month, she allegedly committed her crimes by mixing sleeping pills into their food or drinks. Ms. A reportedly took advantage of the victims being asleep after ingesting the drugs to transfer their money to her own account using their mobile phones or to purchase goods worth several million won, thereby stealing their valuables.
On April 23, Mr. B discovered he had been victimized after waking up at a residence in Uijeongbu and reported the incident to the police by calling 112. The responding officers found that a complaint of a similar nature had already been filed and subsequently apprehended Ms. A. A urine test conducted on Mr. B detected the presence of a sleeping pill ingredient believed to belong to the benzodiazepine class. It has been reported that the victims do not clearly remember the circumstances under which they took the sleeping pills.

Ms. A is said to have denied the charges during police questioning, stating that she was prescribed the sleeping pills by a hospital for symptoms of panic disorder and that the men took the pills voluntarily. The Uijeongbu Police Station is investigating whether there are additional victims, possible accomplices, and the motive behind the crimes.
