On April 22, Osan City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Kwonjae) announced that it plans to add one more Hi-pass lane for entry and exit at Osan Tollgate (hereinafter TG), increasing the current two lanes to a total of three.

According to the city, Osan Interchange (IC) on the Gyeongbu Expressway serves as a key junction connecting major roads in southern Gyeonggi Province, but has long suffered from severe congestion caused by bottlenecks. The situation has been particularly severe during rush hour, to the extent that it affects both urban roads and the main line of the Gyeongbu Expressway.
To address this, since a visit to Korea Expressway Corporation (EX) in December 2024, the city has been holding ongoing practical consultations and has been discussing the addition of a Hi-pass lane at Osan TG as one of its short-term projects.
During a meeting with Korea Expressway Corporation, Mayor Lee Kwonjae stated, "Due to Osan City's rapid urban development, traffic volume at Osan IC reached its limit long ago. Moreover, with the move-in of large apartment complexes in areas such as Segyo 2 New Town and East Osan, a further increase in vehicle traffic is inevitable," emphasizing that, "Establishing a new Hi-pass TG is urgently needed, even as a short-term measure."
Going forward, the city will focus not only on short-term projects but also on mid-term projects, including: the multi-level construction of Osan IC; establishment of a new Hi-pass TG near the Unamddeul AI City urban development site; installation of entrance and exit ramps in both directions at Namsajinwi IC on the Gyeongbu Expressway; and the construction of a new Hi-pass TG at the Osan Service Area on the Second Capital Area Ring Expressway.
