Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Sangjin Shin) has received a plaque of appreciation from the local construction committee in Aurora, Colorado, for its contributions to the ongoing project to build the Korean War Veterans Monument in Aurora.

View original imageOn the 22nd, Seongnam City announced that it had received a plaque of appreciation from the Aurora City Korean War Veterans Monument Construction Committee (Chairman Seungwoo Lee) at the mayor's office. This presentation ceremony was organized to honor Seongnam City’s active administrative support and monetary donation to the monument construction project led by the Korean community in Aurora, a sister city, and to recognize its role in strengthening Korea-U.S. friendship.
This plaque was awarded to commend Seongnam City’s ongoing administrative support for the Korean War Veterans Monument construction project, which was led by the Korean community in Aurora, its international sister city, and to recognize the city’s contributions to enhancing Korea-U.S. relations. Younghyun Han, president of the Seongnam Moran Rotary Club of Rotary International District 3600, and Iwansang, former governor of Rotary International District 3600, were also recognized for their contributions and received plaques of appreciation at the ceremony.
Previously, in October, Seongnam City signed a "Memorandum of Understanding on International Exchange and Cooperation through Monument Construction" with the Aurora City Korean War Veterans Monument Construction Committee and the Seongnam Moran Rotary Club. The city also delivered a donation of 19.4 million won, which had been voluntarily raised through the Korean War Veterans Association and others, to the construction committee to support the project.
The Korean War Veterans Monument in Aurora, USA, is being built within Generals Park (3,000 square meters) on the grounds of the University of Colorado Hospital and is scheduled for completion in July. The project, with a budget of approximately 1.3 billion won (950,000 dollars), will include 16 storyboards explaining the Korean War, 22 monuments honoring the sacrifices of soldiers from participating nations, and four Korean traditional gardens.
Chairman Seungwoo Lee of the construction committee stated, "I am deeply grateful for the genuine cooperation and support shown by Seongnam City and the Seongnam Moran Rotary Club throughout the entire process from groundbreaking to completion of the monument."
Mayor Sangjin Shin of Seongnam said, "It is very meaningful for Seongnam City to participate in such a significant project to build a monument in our sister city, Aurora, commemorating the noble sacrifices of the veterans who dedicated themselves to the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea. I accept this plaque on behalf of all the citizens of Seongnam, and I will continue to strengthen the Korea-U.S. alliance and maintain ongoing international exchanges based on the values of freedom and peace."

Meanwhile, Aurora is located east of Denver, Colorado, and is known as a multicultural city where aerospace, defense, biotechnology, and medical industries are developed, and various races and cultures coexist.
