Incheon to Launch "Safe Home Project" for Vulnerable Groups... One-Stop Service from Diagnosis to Construction and Health Management
On April 22, Incheon Metropolitan City announced that it will implement the "Safe Environmental Health Home Project" to support 32 vulnerable households—including low-income families and elderly people living alone (23 households in Seo-gu and 9 households in Ongjin-gun)—with services ranging from residential environment diagnosis to replacement with eco-friendly materials.
This project goes beyond simple home repairs and focuses on improving the overall indoor environment. Experts will visit each household to conduct precise diagnoses of major harmful substances, including mold, house dust mites, total volatile organic compounds (TVOC), formaldehyde (HCHO), and carbon dioxide.
Based on the results of these diagnoses, customized construction will be carried out for each household, including replacing wallpaper and flooring with eco-friendly materials and improving ventilation. The city has begun work by prioritizing households in urgent need of indoor environmental improvement and plans to complete all work by September.
This project is funded by designated donations from SK Incheon Petrochem and the Yeongheung Power Division of Korea South-East Power. In addition, the Incheon Environmental Health Center, Incheon Community Chest of Korea, and Incheon Metropolitan Self-Sufficiency Center are taking on roles in the diagnosis and construction process. The project is being recognized as a public-private partnership model that combines corporate sponsorship, public administration, and on-site implementation capabilities to improve residential environments.
After improving the residential environment, the city will link this effort with the "Safe Environmental Disease Medical Service Project," providing health checkups and expert consultations, as well as ongoing monitoring and post-management.
