"Withstands 400°C"... Toray Advanced Materials Showcases High-Heat Resistant Fiber Technology
Unveiling the Dry-Spun "Arawin"
Expanding Into Electric Vehicle and UAM Markets With Lightweight Sound-Absorbing Materials
Toray Advanced Materials announced on April 22 that it participated in "Techtextile 2026," the world's largest industrial textile exhibition, held in Frankfurt, Germany from April 21 to 24, showcasing its core material technologies such as meta-aramid fiber and ultrafine sound-absorbing materials.
The meta-aramid fiber "Arawin," unveiled at this exhibition, is the first of its kind developed in Korea using a proprietary dry spinning process. Its distinguishing features include heat resistance and flame retardancy, as well as electrical insulation properties, enabling it to withstand temperatures above 400°C. Toray Advanced Materials plans to leverage this product to expand into high value-added markets such as ultra-high voltage transformers, electric vehicles, and high-performance heat-resistant clothing.
The company also introduced its ultrafine sound-absorbing material "Airlite." This product is a lightweight nonwoven sound-absorbing material made by blending polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) using the melt-blown process, with an annual supply capability of 4,800 tons. It delivers excellent sound absorption over a wide frequency range while reducing weight compared to existing products, leading to growing demand in the electric vehicle market.
Toray Advanced Materials expects that, as the urban air mobility (UAM) industry grows, demand for lightweight and high-performance sound-absorbing materials will rise further, and the company intends to accelerate its efforts to secure a leading position in this market.
