LG Electronics is significantly expanding its business-to-business (B2B) operations by leveraging its functional new material, LG Purotek, which is utilized across a wide range of industries.
From April 21, LG Electronics is showcasing its antibacterial functional new material, LG Purotek, at 'CHINAPLAS 2026,' an industrial material exhibition held in Shanghai, China, for four days.
LG Electronics is participating in 'Chinaplas,' one of the world's top three industrial materials exhibitions held in Shanghai, China, starting from the 21st. Purotek is a powder made by pulverizing glass blended with functional materials. When added in small amounts to materials such as plastics, paints, or rubber, it provides antimicrobial and antifungal properties by suppressing odors, contamination, and discoloration caused by microorganisms.
At this year’s exhibition, LG Electronics has set up its largest-ever booth since first participating in CHINAPLAS, focusing on promoting the effectiveness of Purotek to B2B customers across various industries.
LG Electronics is presenting a total of five Purotek product lines at its booth, allowing visitors to experience a variety of products incorporating the material. These include home appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners, as well as building materials, functional apparel, sanitary products, and food packaging—demonstrating Purotek’s application in daily life. The company has also established a dedicated meeting space to offer tailored solution consultations for B2B customers.
In particular, B2B customers visiting the booth showed strong interest not only in Purotek's outstanding functionality, but also in its excellent compatibility, as it maintains its inherent physical properties and minimizes interference with other additives when applied to various materials, including transparent and flame-retardant plastics.
LG Electronics has selected new materials as a new growth engine and, through bold investments, is quickly doubling its sales volume each year compared to the previous year. To meet the rapidly growing demand for functional glass powder, the company is significantly expanding production capacity. Currently, it operates a facility with an annual capacity of 4,500 tons at Smart Park in Changwon, Gyeongnam, and is establishing a second glass powder production base in Haiphong, Vietnam, aiming to begin operations within this year.
To accelerate growth, the company is also continuing research and development in areas such as patents and standard certification. LG Electronics holds more than 420 patents related to glass powder, and earlier this year, it passed regulatory requirements for antimicrobial agents necessary for entry into European and U.S. markets.
Through ongoing research, LG Electronics is expanding the applications of glass powder beyond Purotek. Notable examples include 'Marine Glass,' which dissolves in water to supply nutrients to seaweed and microalgae, aiding in marine ecosystem restoration and carbon reduction, and 'Mineral Wash,' which enables laundry without the use of surfactants.
