Samsung Display's QD-OLED Viewing Angle Performance Validated by Global Certification Body
Viewing Angle Assessment Across the Entire QD-OLED Lineup
Quantum Dots Deliver Consistent Image Quality from Every Angle
Expanding Presence in the Global PC and Monitor Market
Samsung Display's QD-OLED (Quantum Dot Organic Light Emitting Diode) has received objective validation of its superior viewing angle performance from a global certification body.
On April 22, Samsung Display announced that its QD-OLED for TVs and monitors has completed the 'QuantumViewTM' verification evaluation by the global certification company UL Solutions.
QuantumView is an evaluation that verifies the viewing angle characteristics of a display by measuring changes in luminance and color coordinates according to viewing position (moving in 10-degree increments from the front up to a maximum of 60 degrees). An assessment of all QD-OLED products from Samsung Display showed that, even when viewed from a 60-degree side angle, the luminance retention rate was over 60% compared to the front, and the change in color coordinates was less than 0.012, indicating almost no variation. In contrast, typical LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays) exhibit a luminance retention rate of less than 20% and a color coordinate change of up to 0.025 under 60-degree viewing angle conditions, which is about twice as much as QD-OLEDs.
Samsung Display recently announced on the 22nd that its QD-OLED for TVs and monitors has completed the 'QuantumViewTM' verification assessment by the global certification company UL Solutions. Samsung Display.

Recently, as the use of dual or triple monitors and professional reference monitors has increased, and more people review collaborative work on a single monitor, demand for wide-viewing-angle QD-OLED monitors is also rising as user patterns evolve."
The company explained that the superior viewing angle characteristics of QD-OLED stem from its unique front-emitting structure and the 'Lambertian emission' properties of quantum dot materials. Generally, light is directional, so screen brightness or color can change depending on the viewing angle. Lambertian emission refers to an optical property where light is emitted uniformly in all directions, resulting in consistent brightness regardless of the viewing angle.
According to the company, "In QD-OLED, quantum dots absorb blue OLED light and re-emit it as red and green wavelengths. These quantum dots, which are nanometer (nm)-sized fine particles, not only convert color but also exhibit a Lambertian emission pattern, spreading light widely in a spherical manner." The company also noted, "Unlike other large OLED technologies, QD pixels in QD-OLEDs directly produce vivid and highly pure colors from the front, enabling both color accuracy and high luminous efficiency."
Based on its excellent wide viewing angle and color reproduction features, Samsung Display is expanding the OLED monitor market beyond the gaming-focused B2C (business-to-consumer) sector into B2B (business-to-business) fields with high demand for precision displays, such as video and graphic professionals, content creators, and financial traders. Recently, ASUS and Dell Technologies each launched professional creator monitors equipped with QD-OLED, namely the 'ProArt' and 'UltraSharp' models. In addition, Acer, Lenovo, and MSI are also planning to introduce professional monitor lineups.
