On April 20, the Yangyang County Council held its 297th special session and confirmed the '2026 1st Supplementary Budget', which was prepared by Yangyang County, Gangwon Province, to secure momentum for major pending projects and inject new vitality into the local economy.
The newly confirmed supplementary budget amounts to 455.35076 billion won, representing an increase of approximately 7.9% compared to the original budget of 422 billion won. By account, the general account is set at 427.4 billion won, while the special account is 27.9 billion won. Despite challenging circumstances, Yangyang County secured 9 billion won in local allocation tax and 7.2 billion won from the Population Decline Response Fund, establishing a solid fiscal structure.
The core keywords of this supplementary budget are 'economic revitalization' and 'safety.' First, an additional 7 billion won has been allocated to accelerate the long-awaited Seoraksan Osaek Cable Car Project, a long-standing aspiration of Yangyang County. Additionally, 3.5 billion won will be invested in the construction of the Mulchi Port Comprehensive Fisheries Sales Center, aiming to attract tourists and boost fishermen's income simultaneously.
Budget for disaster prevention to protect the lives and property of county residents has also been significantly strengthened. This includes 2.3 billion won for the Sondang District Drainage Improvement Project, 750 million won for the Yangyang Namdaecheon Local River Maintenance Project, and 500 million won for the Suyeo District Disaster Vulnerability Improvement Project, ensuring thorough measures against natural disasters resulting from the climate crisis.
Furthermore, to help revive the local economy, the supplementary budget includes 470 million won for the Yangyang Love Gift Certificate Discount Subsidy and 550 million won for the Hajo-dae District Sidewalk Maintenance Project, as part of everyday environment improvement initiatives for residents' convenience.
In particular, Yangyang County has designated the period from April 20, when the budget was approved, until the end of the month as an intensive inspection period. During this time, each department will conduct on-site inspections of budget execution status. Through these inspections, the county aims to closely monitor the implementation of each project and encourage the swift allocation of funds to maximize the stimulus effect on the local economy.
Sangcheol Kim, Head of the Planning and Budget Division at Yangyang County, stated, "This supplementary budget focused on stably completing core projects that will address the population decline crisis and determine the region's future. Now that the budget has been approved, we will strive to ensure that county residents experience positive changes in their daily lives through prompt and efficient execution."
