Wonju City Achieves First Place Nationwide in 2025 Traffic Culture Index... Seventh Consecutive Year of Recognition
Ranked First Among Cities with a Population Over 300,000

On April 16, Wonju City, Gangwon-do, received the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award at the "2025 Traffic Culture Index Outstanding and Improved Local Governments Awards Ceremony" held at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Traffic Safety Experience Education Center in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province.
The city achieved the remarkable feat of ranking first in the category for cities with a population of over 300,000, marking its seventh consecutive year of winning this award.
The Traffic Culture Index Survey, organized annually by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, evaluates indicators such as driving behavior, pedestrian behavior, and traffic safety across 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide. The survey objectively measures the public's awareness of traffic safety and the overall level of traffic culture.
In the 2025 survey, Wonju City recorded a total score of 91.58 points, significantly surpassing the national average of 81.34 points. In particular, the city demonstrated higher compliance rates than the national average in several areas, including a 100% helmet-wearing rate among motorcycle passengers (national average: 97.16%), a 100% compliance rate with pedestrian signal rules at crosswalks (national average: 92.80%), and a 99.73% compliance rate in refraining from using smart devices while crossing crosswalks (national average: 85.86%).

An official from Wonju City stated, "We will continue our best efforts to make Wonju a city that prioritizes safety by establishing systematic traffic safety measures and enhancing public awareness of traffic safety."
