Over 180 Attendees Show Great Interest
Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province has taken full-fledged steps to promote senior sports and establish itself as a national hub for senior athletics.
On April 10 at 2:00 p.m., Hamyang County held a project briefing session for the 'THE Hamyang Senior Field Master Academy & Championship' at the small performance hall of the Hamyang County Culture and Arts Center, organized by the Hamyang County Sports Council.
Approximately 180 people attended the event, including the heads of associations and executives for gateball, ground golf, and park golf, as well as members from each group, showing great interest in the direction and operational plans of the initiative.

View original image'THE Hamyang Senior Field Master Academy & Championship' is a project selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 2026 Senior Sports Class Program Support Project, and will receive a total of 1.2 billion won in national funding and other support over three years from 2026 to 2028.
The project will be operated along two pillars: education and competition. The 'Senior Field Master Academy' will offer systematic educational programs through specialized courses for each sport, while 'THE Hamyang Senior Field Championship' will be the nation's first competition to integrate the three sports of gateball, ground golf, and park golf.
The briefing session provided detailed information on the academy's operational schedule, the curriculum for each sport, and the championship plans. It also included a Q&A session to gather a wide range of opinions from attendees.
An official from the county stated, "Many seniors have shown significant interest, confirming the potential for the project's success," adding, "We aim to build a virtuous cycle model leading from education to tournament participation, and develop Hamyang into South Korea's leading senior sports mecca."

Byungmyung Ahn, President of the Hamyang County Sports Council, said, "This project is a meaningful program that systematically operates park golf, ground golf, and gateball, linking them to competitions to help seniors enhance their health and enjoy a vibrant later life. The Hamyang County Sports Council will do its utmost to ensure that seniors can not only improve their health through exercise but also foster interaction and harmony with their neighbors."
