Pyeongchang County Opens Cheongoksan Wildflower Ecological Complex... The Allure of "Yukbaekmajigi" Shasta Daisies
Pyeongchang County Opens Cheongoksan Wildflower Ecological Complex
Enhanced Management Planned for Peak Blooming Season in June and July
Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province will open the "Cheongoksan Wildflower Ecological Complex" in Mitan-myeon, which has been gaining popularity through word of mouth for its Yukbaekmajigi field, to visitors starting from April 7.
The Cheongoksan Yukbaekmajigi is well-known nationwide as a prime tourist destination, famous for its Shasta daisy fields and stargazing spots, attracting visitors from all over the country. The county plans to implement systematic management, including supplementary planting and improvement of the growing environment, in preparation for the wildflower blooming season, which peaks annually in June and July.
The Cheongoksan Wildflower Ecological Complex features a 42,000 square meter wildflower garden, a 1.3 km observation trail, and an observatory, making it an ecological tourism destination that currently welcomes 150 to 200 visitors on weekdays and 500 to 600 visitors on weekends.
To address the decline in the blooming rate of Shasta daisies in some sections last year, the county will expand reseeding and soil improvement efforts. In addition, to minimize dust caused by unpaved roads and the construction of the Cheongoksan Milky Way Garden, two water trucks will be deployed and environmental management will be further strengthened.
Measures have also been put in place to alleviate traffic congestion during peak season. The county will deploy additional personnel for traffic control during the high season from June to September, and install portable restrooms near the bus-restricted areas to enhance convenience for visitors.
