Yangpyeong County Holds Unveiling Ceremony for Monument Celebrating Yangsuri's Selection as UN Tourism 'Best Tourism Village'
Yangsuri Dumulmeori Recognized Worldwide
International Tourism Status Further Elevated
Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jinseon) held an unveiling ceremony for the commemorative monument celebrating the selection of Yangsuri (Dumulmeori) as a 'Best Tourism Village' by UN Tourism on April 3 at the Dumulmeori area in Yangseo-myeon, Yangsuri.
This unveiling ceremony was organized to commemorate Yangsuri Village's selection as a '2025 Best Tourism Village' by UN Tourism and to widely promote the international value of Dumulmeori as a tourism resource both domestically and abroad.
The event was co-hosted and organized by Yangpyeong County and the Yangsu 5-ri Village Development Committee. Key attendees included Jeon Jinseon, Governor of Yangpyeong County; Min Kyunghwan, head of Yangsu 5-ri; other major guests; heads of institutions and organizations in Yangseo-myeon; the Village Heads Council; and local residents. The ceremony proceeded in the following order: a pre-event performance, national ceremony, introduction of guests, progress report, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, unveiling performance of the monument, and a commemorative photo session.
The 'Best Tourism Villages' initiative by UN Tourism is an international certification program that comprehensively evaluates rural communities based on criteria such as nature and cultural preservation, sustainable tourism, and community participation, selecting outstanding villages. Yangsuri Village became the seventh in Korea and the first in Gyeonggi Province to be selected, receiving international recognition for its exceptional natural environment and community-based tourism.
Dumulmeori is a symbolic location where the Namhangang and Bukhangang Rivers meet, marking the beginning of the Han River, and has established itself as a representative tourist attraction in Yangpyeong. In particular, it has been selected seven consecutive times as one of the 'Top 100 Korean Tourist Attractions,' demonstrating its nationwide tourism competitiveness. With its latest designation as a 'Best Tourism Village' by UN Tourism, its international standing has been further elevated.
Furthermore, this achievement is expected to strengthen the foundation for the successful hosting of the '14th Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo,' which will be held in October, centered around Dumulmeori and Semiwon. Yangpyeong County plans to continue enhancing the value of its regional tourism brand by linking the tourism resources of Dumulmeori with its garden culture assets.
