The Gwangju Creative Convergence Education Institute (hereafter referred to as the Gwangju Creative Convergence Education Institute) selected a total of 20 schools—10 elementary and 10 middle schools—through a public application process prior to the project. These schools will run the "Math On-da(on多) School" program until December this year.
The "Math On-da(on多) School" initiative was established to promote inquiry- and experience-based classes centered on student participation, and to build mathematics education models that reflect the unique characteristics of each school.
In particular, by moving away from knowledge-delivery-focused lessons and instead operating classes centered on learning where students directly discover mathematical principles, the program aims to foster greater interest and confidence in mathematics among students.
In fact, a survey conducted with students who participated in last year's program showed increases in all three indicators: interest in mathematics, confidence in mathematics, and perceived value of mathematics.
Conversely, anxiety about mathematics significantly decreased.
Additionally, the educational effectiveness of the program was demonstrated, as two students from participating schools received the "Korea Mathematics Education Award."
Lee Miyeong, a teacher at Duam Middle School who will participate in this year's program, stated, "With the operation of 'Math On-da(on多) School,' I expect students will be able to enjoy and grow through their experiences with mathematics," and added, "I will strive to create lessons where students can truly appreciate the value of mathematics through student-centered educational activities."
Starting with training for staff in charge of the program on this day, the Gwangju Creative Convergence Education Institute will also promote various initiatives, including advisory support from the mathematics education support group, on-site consulting, digital and AI work training, and sharing of best practices.
