Gwangju Dong-gu Launches Childcare Support Initiatives for Infants, Toddlers, and Parents
Gwangju Dong-gu District announced on March 26 that it will begin full-scale implementation of various support projects starting in April to promote the healthy growth of infants and toddlers, alleviate the burden of childcare on parents, and improve the quality of childcare services.
The Dong-gu Childcare Support Center, which serves as a "childcare safety net" for the local community and a "lifeline" for isolated families, has set its main objectives for this year as: strengthening support for home-based childcare, activating parent education and counseling, and enhancing the professionalism of childcare staff. Based on this, the district plans to provide more comprehensive childcare support services to families with young children and daycare centers in the area.
First, in the area of home-based childcare support, the district will expand programs that allow parents and young children to participate together. Through parent-child experience programs and play support projects, the aim is to reduce the childcare burden on families and create environments that foster child development. In particular, the district plans to increase user satisfaction by offering customized programs that reflect user demand.
Parent support projects will also be further strengthened. The center will offer parent education on topics such as understanding child development, positive parenting, parental roles, and respect for children's rights, as well as healing programs to relieve parenting stress. These initiatives are intended to reduce the difficulties parents face during the childcare process and to help create a stable childcare environment.
Support for childcare sites will also continue. For daycare directors and staff, practical support will be provided through work-related training, capacity-building education, consulting, and information sharing. The district plans to focus on enhancing the professionalism and public value of childcare services by actively reflecting changes in childcare policy and on-site needs during this process.
This year’s flagship project, "Play Footsteps: Protecting the Golden Time," utilizes intelligent CCTV to detect developmental delays and maladaptive behaviors in infants and toddlers at an early stage. When necessary, the project will connect children with specialists for ongoing monitoring and tailored support for growth and development.
Another new initiative, "Dong-gu Children Growing with Books and Humanities," will support daycare centers by providing new books every month and operating reading-related play programs, aiming to foster a reading environment where children can develop humanistic knowledge and sensitivity from an early age.
