Suspect in Fellow Airline Captain Murder Case Planned to Target Six People in Total
The suspect in the Busanjin District airline captain murder case has been handed over to the prosecution while under arrest.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency (acting commissioner Jeong Seongsu) announced on the 26th that the suspect has been referred for indictment under arrest on charges of murder, attempted murder, preparation for murder, trespassing, and violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.
After apprehending the suspect, the police merged a related case that occurred in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province, into the investigation. They also focused their investigation on whether there were additional plans to commit further crimes.
According to the police, the suspect initially stated that he had planned to target four people, but it was confirmed that he had intended to kill two more people if he was not apprehended after committing the crime. Police investigations revealed that he had plotted to kill a total of six people.
On March 16, the police charged the suspect with attempted murder of the victim, and on March 17, with murder of the victim. In addition, for the four people he intended to target, the police charged him with preparation for murder.
It was also revealed that the suspect accessed the airline's flight schedule website without authorization to obtain information about the victims' flight schedules. The police added charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection. These charges correspond to violations of Article 71(1) Item 11 and Article 48(1) of the same Act.
The police are continuing to investigate how the suspect was able to obtain access to the flight information.

An official from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency stated, "We plan to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects, including additional crime plans and how the information was obtained, until the very end."
