Yeosu Islands Expo Committee and Korea Slow City Headquarters Sign MOU
Expanding International Exchange
Strategic Cooperation for Island Development
The 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Organizing Committee (Acting Co-Chairman: Jeong Hyeon-gu, Deputy Mayor of Yeosu; Co-Chairman: Park Soo-gwan) and the Korea Slow City Headquarters (Sohn Dae-hyun, Vice President of Cittaslow International and Chairman of Korea Slow City Headquarters) announced on March 25 that they had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to ensure the successful hosting of the expo and promote sustainable island development.
This agreement was established to expand international exchanges on the occasion of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo and to strengthen external cooperation, including promoting the expo to domestic and international member cities of the Slow City network.

View original imageIn particular, Cittaslow International, headquartered in Orvieto, Italy, is a global network composed of 308 member cities across 33 countries. The Korea Slow City Headquarters represents 15 member cities in Korea. This agreement is expected to contribute to the global spread of the Yeosu World Islands Expo.
Accordingly, both parties have agreed to actively cooperate on the following: direct participation of the Korea Slow City Headquarters in the expo and encouraging participation from member cities worldwide; support for operating booths for participating member countries; and initiatives for sustainable island development.
Acting Co-Chairman Jeong Hyeon-gu, Deputy Mayor of Yeosu, stated, "Through this agreement with the Korea Slow City Headquarters, we will strengthen cooperation with member countries and share a vision for the sustainable future of islands."
Co-Chairman Park Soo-gwan added, "Based on the philosophy of Slow City, we will pool our efforts to develop a new island development model that harmonizes preservation and growth," and called for active cooperation with the Korea Slow City Headquarters.
Sohn Dae-hyun, Vice President of Cittaslow International and Chairman of Korea Slow City Headquarters, said, "Taking this expo as an opportunity, we will expand exchanges with domestic and international Slow City member cities and actively participate in promoting to the world the value of islands where people and nature coexist."

Meanwhile, the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo will be held for two months from September 5 to November 4, 2026, centering on Jinmo District in Dolsan-eup, Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, as well as at Yeosu Expo Park, Geumodo, and Gaedo.
