Truck and Van Collide in Muan, Killing Truck Driver in His 80s
Van Driver in Her 50s Charged
Following Intersection Collision in Unnam-myeon, Muan County
A collision between a truck and a van at an intersection in Muan County, South Jeolla Province, resulted in one death and three injuries.
According to the Muan Police Station on March 24, at around 7:19 a.m. the previous day, a van driven by a woman in her 50s, identified as Ms. A, and a 1-ton truck driven by a man in his 80s, identified as Mr. B, collided at a two-lane one-way intersection in Unnam-myeon, Muan County.
As a result of the accident, Mr. B, the truck driver, sustained severe injuries and died, while Ms. A, the van driver, and two other passengers from both vehicles suffered minor injuries and are receiving treatment at a hospital.
The investigation found that the accident occurred when Mr. B’s truck, entering the intersection from the first lane while the van was driving straight, quickly merged into the lane, leading to the collision. It was confirmed that neither driver was under the influence of alcohol nor driving without a license.

The police plan to charge Ms. A, the van driver, with manslaughter under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents. They will also investigate the exact cause of the accident based on black box footage and other evidence.
