Democratic Party Finalizes Heejeong Park as Sole Pohang Mayoral Candidate... First Nomination by Provincial Chapter
Emphasizes "Feasible Pledges and Verifiable Plans as the Ruling Party Candidate"
On March 17, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea confirmed Heejeong Park (currently a member of the Pohang City Council and former head of the Democratic Party's Pohang Nam-gu and Ulleung-gun regional committee) as the sole recommended candidate for Pohang mayor.
This decision marks the first nomination by the Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea for the upcoming June 3 local elections.
This outcome demonstrates the Democratic Party's recognition of preliminary candidate Heejeong Park's competitiveness and potential for broader appeal in the Pohang mayoral race.
Candidate Park stated, "Pohang needs change. I will prepare for the next 10 years of Pohang through 'field-oriented administration' that prioritizes citizens' daily lives, safety, and the recovery of the local economy," adding, "As the first candidate to secure the nomination, I will compete with policies and solutions that work in cooperation with the government and the ruling party during this pivotal moment for Pohang."
In particular, Park emphasized, based on her three-term city council experience, "Having closely observed the gaps in city administration, I will transform Pohang not with superficial slogans, but with actionable pledges and verifiable plans as the candidate of the ruling party."
