Cameron Young (USA) claimed victory at what is often called the "fifth major" with a powerful driver shot.

On March 15 (local time), at the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course (par 72, 7,352 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA, he won the PGA Tour's The Players Championship (total prize money: 25 million dollars) by a single stroke with a score of 13-under-par 275. This marks his second career win on the PGA Tour, following his first victory at the Wyndham Championship in August last year. The winner's prize is 4.5 million dollars (approximately 6.7 billion won).

He carded five birdies and one bogey for a 4-under-par 68 in the final round. On the 17th hole (par 3), the iconic island green of this course, he made a birdie to tie for the lead with Matt Fitzpatrick (England). The competition was decided on the final 18th hole (par 4, 470 yards). Young unleashed a 375-yard drive, then used a wedge from 103 yards to land the ball 4.3 meters from the hole, easily making par with two putts. In contrast, Fitzpatrick's tee shot veered right, and his roughly 3-meter par putt also missed just right, missing the chance for a playoff.

For this tournament, Young chose the Titleist GT3 driver with 11 degrees of loft. This model was the most used driver on the PGA Tour last year and is the most adjustable in the GT series. It features a new weight track positioned much closer to the face than the previous TSR3 line. Its compact, pear-shaped design may feel challenging for amateur golfers, but it is a form preferred by many tour professionals.
