Goseong County: "Goseong, the Sports Industry City, Takes Another Leap Forward"
Preparation for Creating the Second Sports Town
Expanding Capacity to Meet Growing Demand for Training Camps and Competitions
Goseong County in South Gyeongsang Province is planning a major expansion of its sports infrastructure, envisioning the creation of a "Second Sports Town" to further advance as a leading sports industry city in South Korea.
Goseong County has established itself as a national sports hub by attracting training camps and hosting competitions in a wide range of disciplines, including soccer, baseball, taekwondo, ssireum (Korean wrestling), weightlifting, volleyball, and basketball. Notably, its excellent sports facilities, mild climate, and well-organized sports infrastructure have made Goseong a popular destination for numerous athletes and sports enthusiasts every year.
As of the 2025 season, 2,783 teams and 47,197 athletes visited, with the total number of participants, including athletes, officials, and family members, reaching 257,196.
Additionally, from December of last year through March of this year, Goseong Sports Town was filled with winter training teams. A total of 316 teams and 6,978 athletes visited Goseong during this period.
In line with its reputation as a leading sports city, Goseong County currently boasts a diverse range of outdoor and indoor facilities within the Sports Town, including a main stadium, one natural grass soccer field, four artificial turf soccer fields, two baseball fields, futsal courts, basketball courts, jokgu courts, outdoor tennis courts, an archery range, as well as indoor venues such as the National Sports Center, indoor gymnasium, Bandabi Cultural and Sports Center, ssireum arena, swimming pool, indoor tennis court, gateball court, and the indoor baseball training facility completed this January. These facilities support the hosting of various competitions and provide ample opportunities for enjoying sports activities.
Furthermore, Goseong has a comprehensive array of sports facilities, including the Sports Town in Goseong-eup focused on attracting training camps and national tournaments, as well as local sports parks such as Donggoseong Sports Park, Georyu Sports Park, Donghae Sports Park, Yeongo Sports Park, and Hai Sports Park, all established in various towns to promote recreational sports for both residents and enthusiasts.
This concentration of outstanding sports infrastructure, combined with proactive sports marketing, has significantly benefited the local economy. In particular, the Goseong Park Golf Course, which opened in January this year, has become popular through word of mouth, attracting an average of about 330 visitors per day and contributing substantially to neighborhood businesses.
However, with the recent surge in training camps and competitions, the current Sports Town facilities alone are no longer sufficient to accommodate the growing demand for large-scale national tournaments. In fact, during certain periods, stadiums and training facilities reach full capacity, resulting in difficulties in attracting additional events.
In response, Goseong County plans to further enhance its sports infrastructure by building the "Second Sports Town," which will complement and expand the functions of the existing Sports Town.
For the development of the Second Sports Town, Goseong County is prioritizing accessibility and its connection to local businesses. The greatest advantage of Goseong's sports infrastructure is that most sports facilities are concentrated within the Sports Town complex, allowing for highly efficient event management.
Goseong County intends to select a location that maximizes synergy with the existing First Sports Town and will work to concretize plans for the Second Sports Town through communication with the sports association, individual sports organizations, local accommodations, and restaurants.

A Goseong County official stated, "While Goseong is already recognized nationwide as a sports hub, our current facilities are reaching their limits. With the creation of the Second Sports Town, not only will we be able to attract more training camps and competitions, but we also expect a significant boost to the local economy. As the use of accommodations, restaurants, and local businesses grows through sports tourism, the economic ripple effect is expected to increase substantially."
