Hanwha Aerospace Signs LNG Purchase Agreement with U.S. Venture Global... "Strengthening Korea-U.S. Energy Security Cooperation"
Contract Signing Held at IPEN in Japan
Rising Importance of Energy Security Amid Rapid International Shifts
Hanwha Aerospace announced on March 15 that it held a long-term LNG purchase contract ceremony with the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer Venture Global at the Indo-Pacific Energy Ministerial and Business Forum (IPEM).
IPEM is an event hosted by the United States on March 14–15 in Tokyo, Japan, inviting 12 countries from the Indo-Pacific region. The reason the United States hosted this event is the growing importance of energy security amid rising uncertainties in the global energy market due to recent changes in the international situation. Ensuring a stable supply of energy, which serves as the foundation for industries such as artificial intelligence (AI) and defense, has emerged as a core national security strategy.
On the 15th in Tokyo, Japan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeonggwan, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, Venture Global CEO Michael Sable, and Hanwha Aerospace CEO Sohn Jaeil (clockwise from top left) posed for a commemorative photo at the long-term LNG purchase contract signing ceremony between Hanwha Aerospace and U.S. LNG producer Venture Global. The event was attended by Son Jaeil, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, Michael Sabel, CEO of Venture Global, Kim Jeonggwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Doug Burgum, U.S. Secretary of the Interior, and other high-ranking government officials from both countries.
CEO Son stated, "This energy cooperation will once again demonstrate the strong partnership between South Korea and the United States for strengthening energy security," adding, "Based on our energy and defense capabilities, we will fulfill our role as a global security partner."
Secretary Burgum emphasized, "The South Korea-U.S. strategic alliance has been a pillar of peace and stability for about 70 years, and energy security is one of its key elements."
Minister Kim said, "South Korea and the United States have maintained an ongoing partnership that encompasses both economic and security issues," adding, "The agreement signed today will serve as a cornerstone for stabilizing the global supply chain."
Meanwhile, Hanwha Aerospace is building a 'global LNG value chain' that spans LNG production, distribution, and utilization by consolidating the capabilities of its affiliates. Hanwha Ocean possesses the expertise to construct LNG carriers and floating liquefied natural gas production facilities (FLNG) and leads the development of maritime infrastructure. Hanwha Energy is responsible for LNG power generation and operations capabilities. Hanwha Shipping handles the stable sea transportation of LNG.
