Gyeonggi Province to Conduct Quarterly "Delinquent Vehicle Crackdown Day" with 31 Cities and Counties
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government, in cooperation with 31 cities and counties, will conduct a "Delinquent Vehicle Crackdown Day" until October. The crackdown will target vehicles with more than three unpaid automobile tax bills or over 300,000 won in tax arrears.
This year, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government has set a goal to seize the license plates of 23,400 vehicles. This is a 10% increase compared to last year’s figure of 21,247 vehicles whose license plates were seized.
On March 24, 2026, and three additional times throughout the year, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government will carry out simultaneous crackdown activities, focusing on areas with high vehicle density such as apartment complexes, residential neighborhoods, and mixed-use commercial districts.
In cooperation with relevant agencies such as local police stations and Korea Expressway Corporation, joint inspections will also be conducted to target not only automobile tax delinquencies, but also vehicles with outstanding fines, penalties, and unpaid highway tolls.
In addition, vehicles suspected of being “Daepo cars” (vehicles registered under false names) will be immediately immobilized with wheel clamps, forcibly towed, and disposed of through public auction as strong measures against tax delinquency.
Because Daepo cars are difficult to trace to their actual owners and often fail to fulfill various legal obligations, they are a major cause of chronic tax delinquency. For this reason, such vehicles will be forcibly towed and sold at public auction.
