The group assignments for the Democratic Party primary debate to select the candidate for Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Mayor have been finalized.
According to the Democratic Party on March 12, the Central Party Election Commission assigned candidate numbers and determined the debate group matchups by drawing lots on the previous day, following the completion of candidate registration for the primary.

The debates will be conducted in two groups. Group A includes Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeonnam; Kang Kijeong, Mayor of Gwangju; Joo Chulhyun, Member of the National Assembly; and Min Hyungbae, Member of the National Assembly. Group B consists of Jung Junho and Shin Junghun, both Members of the National Assembly, and Lee Byunghun, Senior Vice Chairperson of the Democratic Party’s Special Committee for Honam Development.
Originally, the primary was planned to split the eight candidates into two groups of four, but after Assemblyman Lee Gaeho announced his withdrawal from the race, the format was changed to seven candidates, resulting in four members in Group A and three in Group B.

The joint group debates will be held over two days, on March 17 (Group A) and March 18 (Group B). The schedule for the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Mayor primary will continue with a preliminary primary on March 19–20, the main primary on April 3–5, and a runoff vote on April 12–14.
