Goyang City Steps Up 'Hygiene Safety Management' Ahead of BTS Concert and Flower Expo
Intensive Inspections of Food and Lodging Establishments Begin March 16
Preventing Food Poisoning and Eliminating Overcharging
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced that it will establish a comprehensive hygiene and safety management system to prepare for a large influx of domestic and international tourists ahead of major events, including the 'BTS World Tour' scheduled for April and May, and the '2026 Goyang International Flower Expo'.
Starting March 16 and running through May 10, the city will deploy four joint inspection teams composed of the Food Safety Department and the industrial hygiene divisions of its three district offices. These teams will conduct inspections of food service establishments and lodging facilities near event venues such as Goyang Sports Complex and Ilsan Lake Park, as well as near major train stations.
Key inspection items in the food sector will focus on whether expired products are being used and compliance with food ingredient storage standards. In the lodging sector, inspections will target the posting and observance of price lists and will strictly regulate unfair business practices, such as excessive pricing and unilateral reservation cancellations.
Prior to this, the city will send a cooperation letter in the mayor's name to 61 lodging facilities near major train stations and event venues. The letter will call for active cooperation to ensure a positive impression for visitors to Goyang, including prohibiting excessive charges, maintaining room cleanliness, and providing courteous service.
Additionally, from April 24 to May 10, during the flower expo period, a 'Food and Public Hygiene Safety Management Situation Room' will be operated. An emergency response system will be maintained on both weekdays and weekends to allow for swift action in the event of hygiene-related incidents such as food poisoning and to promptly address any visitor complaints or inconveniences.
