View original imageThis year’s festival, held under the theme “Maengbang, Blooming in Spring,” aims to showcase even stronger vitality and radiant beauty than ever before. In particular, the festival carries special significance as it has been organized after overcoming a crisis caused by severe waterlogging damage to the canola planting fields due to a record-breaking autumn rainy season that lasted for a month in September and October of last year.
Samcheok City and the festival organizing committee addressed the unprecedented loss of the canola fields by conducting large-scale pot seedling supplementation, and in the damaged areas, they created circular flower beds filled with a variety of flowers, turning the crisis into a new attraction. In addition, pinwheel installations placed throughout the flower beds are expected to blend with the waves of yellow canola blossoms, offering visitors a dynamic sense of spring.
A festival official stated, “The spring of Maengbang, which has bloomed more deeply and brilliantly in proportion to the weight of waiting, is a special gift that only this year’s festival—prepared after overcoming adversity—can offer,” and added, “We hope you enjoy the splendid scenery born from dedication, surrounded by canola and a diverse array of flowers that have been cultivated with great care.”
