The Spirit of March 1st Revived in Daegu... Kyongchan Son Begins a New Chapter in Civic Activism as Executive Director
Appointed at the 3·1 Spirit National Movement Alliance General Meeting
Promoting the Legacy of Historical Spirit and Expanding Youth Education
The 3·1 Spirit National Movement Alliance, a nonprofit organization, has embarked on a new initiative to expand the spirit of the independence movement into a modern civic movement.
At its general meeting held on March 8 at the Damsu Hall in Jung-gu, Daegu, the Alliance appointed Kyongchan Son as Executive Director and announced its plan to actively promote a civic-driven national movement based on the noble spirit of the March 1st Movement. The letter of appointment was presented in person by Chairman Kyujae Kim of the Alliance.

We recruited Kyongchan Son as Executive Director to reinterpret the historical significance of the independence movement in a way that fits the times and to strengthen solidarity between the local community and civil society."
Executive Director Son has previously served as an advisor to the Presidential Committee for National Unity, President of the Daegu Headquarters for the Dokdo Love Movement, President of the Kim Seongdo Memorial Foundation, Auditor at the Korean Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations, Head of the Arts Consumption Movement Headquarters, Chairman of External Cooperation at the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, and President of the Daegu Headquarters for the Social Normalization Movement. Through these roles, he has engaged in a wide range of activities spanning civil society and the arts and culture sector. He is currently the President of the Suseong-gu Literary Association, contributing to the development of local arts and culture.
Executive Director Son remarked, "The spirit of the March 1st Movement is not merely a historical commemoration of the past, but a value for our time that we must put into practice. I will work with citizens to remember the noble spirit of the Daegu 3·8 Independence Movement and expand this into a civic movement rooted in action."
Moving forward, the Alliance plans to focus on the following key initiatives: expanding civic movements to uphold the spirit of the March 1st Movement, running youth history and civic education programs, cultivating patriotic civic consciousness in the local community, and holding cultural and academic events based on the spirit of the independence movement.
The 3·1 Spirit National Movement Alliance, which has over 1,500 members, is an organization that continues a range of educational, cultural, and civic activities to carry on the noble spirit of the March 1st Movement and to spread a correct understanding of history and civic values.

For its historical value to remain alive in our society today, it must become more than a commemoration and develop into a field of action. Attention is being paid to whether the launch of Executive Director Son's leadership will serve as a catalyst for expanding the 3·1 spirit into local civic movements and cultural activities.
