Man in His 40s Caught Stealing Hundreds of Bridge Nameplates in Jeonnam Jangheung

Scrap Dealer Employees Also Booked for Receiving Stolen Goods
A man in his 40s was apprehended by police after stealing hundreds of bridge nameplates across the Jeonnam and Jeonbuk regions.
The Jangheung Police Station in Jeonnam announced on March 11, 2026, that they are currently investigating a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, on suspicion of theft.
Mr. A is accused of stealing 855 bridge nameplates installed on 254 bridges throughout Jeonnam and Jeonbuk over the course of one month, starting in December 2025.
The investigation revealed that Mr. A sold the stolen nameplates to a scrap metal dealer in Gwangju, earning over 40 million won. During police questioning, Mr. A stated, "I committed the crime because I ran out of living expenses."
The police have also booked six individuals, including employees of the scrap dealer who purchased the stolen goods from Mr. A, on charges of receiving stolen property and are continuing their investigation.

A police official stated, "Once the investigation is complete, Mr. A and the scrap dealer employees will be referred to the prosecution."
