"Long Live Korean Independence"... Goseong County to Hold 107th March 1st Movement Anniversary Ceremony on the 13th
The Cries of That Day Echo Once Again at Baedun Market
Goseong County in South Gyeongsang Province will hold a student writing contest and a commemorative ceremony on March 13, 2026, to mark the 107th anniversary of the March 1st Movement. The event aims to honor the historical significance of the "Baedun Market Independence Movement," a prominent local anti-Japanese independence movement, and to carry on the noble spirit of the patriotic martyrs.
The student writing contest will take place at Yangji Park in Hwehwa-myeon, with approximately 200 elementary, middle, and high school students and their chaperones from the county who registered in advance. On-site registration will also be available for those who wish to participate on the day of the event.
The contest topic will be announced on the day of the event. A total of 52 winners, including the grand prize winner (awarded by the Goseong County Governor), will be selected and recognized. The results of the contest will be announced on the Goseong County website on March 20, 2026.
On March 19, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m., a commemorative ceremony and reenactment of the Baedun Market Independence Movement will be held in front of the March 1st Movement Monument in Baedun-ri, Hwehwa-myeon, with around 350 participants in attendance.

The ceremony will begin with a commemorative performance, followed by the national ceremony, laying of flowers and incense offering, recitation of the Declaration of Independence, commemorative address, and singing of the March 1st Movement song. Attendees will also participate in a street march, recreating the passionate cries that resonated through Baedun Market 107 years ago, making for a meaningful occasion.
