Murim P&P Wins Special Award at CDP Korea Awards, a First in Korea's Paper Industry
Awarded the Carbon Management Special Prize
Production System Recognized for Carbon Reduction
Eco-friendly paper company Murim P&P announced on March 11 that it has received the Carbon Management Special Award at the "2025 CDP Korea Awards," becoming the first company in the domestic paper industry to win this honor following an excellent evaluation in the global ESG assessment, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). This achievement, accomplished on its first attempt at the CDP, is regarded as especially meaningful as it represents international recognition for the company’s carbon reduction-focused production system and transparent climate disclosure capabilities.

It is a representative environmental evaluation metric referenced by major institutions, including global investment bodies and the United Nations (UN).
In this year’s CDP Korea Committee evaluation, approximately 1,700 companies, including those with the highest market capitalization in Korea, were subject to disclosure. Among them, Murim P&P received high marks across its carbon reduction-oriented production processes and overall climate disclosure system, earning the award.
The primary reason for Murim P&P’s award is its resource-circulation-based, carbon-reducing production system. Murim P&P operates an eco-friendly resource circulation facility that uniquely in Korea uses biomass "black liquor" generated during the pulp manufacturing process as fuel to produce energy such as electricity and steam. This results in an annual fossil fuel substitution effect of about 800,000 tons of greenhouse gases. It is also the only company in Korea certified by the Ministry of Environment for producing low-carbon paper.
Recently, the company further strengthened its green energy production capabilities by completing a "new eco-friendly, high-efficiency recovery boiler." The Presidential Commission on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth has evaluated this production system as a leading example of carbon neutrality and has conducted an inspection of the Murim P&P Ulsan Plant.
Murim P&P’s achievements in environmental management extend to the recycling of industrial waste. Last year, the Murim P&P Ulsan Plant became the first in the global paper industry to obtain the highest "Platinum (100%)" rating in the "Zero Waste to Landfill" verification, while Murim Paper’s Jinju Plant has maintained the "Gold (95~99%)" rating since 2023.
The company is also actively working to strengthen its climate disclosure system. It has published the first climate change response report in the domestic paper industry and has disclosed Scope 3 indirect greenhouse gas emissions generated throughout the value chain, including product manufacturing, distribution, and disposal.
